Ghostly Encounters from the Past

Imagine seeing a time-traveling ghost, a figure that goes beyond time and space. Nicci, from the UK, had such an experience as a child. She met a mysterious “Lady” that has fascinated her ever since.

Nicci’s mom, a talented sketch artist, helped her draw Lady’s picture. Nicci was shocked to see the drawing look just like her future self. This made her think Lady was her future self, visiting to guide her.

When Nicci was 16, Lady vanished, leaving her with deep supernatural experiences and a past life connection. Her story shows the amazing paranormal sightings and unexplained phenomena that happen when time gets mixed up.

The Time-Traveling Lady

Nicci met the time-traveling apparition Lady as a child. Her mom’s art captured Lady’s spirit. The portrait became a link to Nicci’s supernatural experiences and past life connection with Lady.

Even though it was a ghostly encounter, Nicci is thankful for Lady’s advice. She believes Lady was her future self, helping her younger self. This paranormal sighting changed Nicci’s view on time and the unexplained phenomena it brings.

“Lady had to leave when I was 16, but I’ll always remember the profound impact she had on my life. It was like a past life connection that transcended time and space.”

The Pursuit of the Matching Dolls

Have you ever had a dream that felt real? AJ, a 23-year-old from the USA, has been having such a dream for two years. In these dreams, AJ meets two women who look like dolls. They tell AJ to “bring us all together.”

The dream gets even more interesting when AJ sees the dolls. They guide him to a place with a third doll. This doll has bright red hair, just like the others. AJ wonders what would happen if they could find and bring home this red-haired doll.

The story of haunted dolls has always fascinated people. In 2014, the movie “The Conjuring” spin-off “Annabelle” scared many with its demonic doll. Real stories, like Donna’s Annabelle doll moving on its own, have made these tales even more intriguing.

There are famous dolls like Robert The Doll in Florida and Mandy The Haunted Doll in British Columbia. These dolls have shown strange behaviors, like walking and playing with cameras. Even a 200-year-old doll named Letta in Australia has been linked to strange events, like making it rain and knocking over pictures.

AJ is still searching for the matching dolls, but many questions remain. What secrets do these dolls hold? Will AJ find the truth behind their dreams? The search for the dolls is sure to reveal more about the mysteries that intrigue us all.

“The doll in question, which is claimed to change its facial expression from normal to angry or evil, is made of rigid material like vinyl or PVC. The alleged changing expression of the doll was debunked as a result of selective lighting in the photographs, rather than any paranormal activity.”

The Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City is known for its ghost stories, including a ghost cat and shadow figures. But its most famous story is about a doll with a changing face. Yet, experts found that the doll’s changing look was just from clever lighting, not ghosts.

The Psychic Connection and Voodoo Doll

In the world of paranormal events, Tami from Lake Havasu, Arizona, has a chilling story. It’s about psychic abilities and the scary power of a voodoo doll. Her sister showed off her psychic skills in some scary events that changed their family forever.

Tami tells how her sister made a clay doll that looked like their mom. They put it on a bookshelf. Then, the doll fell and got crushed, just like the night their mom was in a car accident but was okay. This spooky link between the doll and their mom made Tami and her family very uneasy. It showed how powerful her sister’s psychic abilities were.

But there was more to come. Tami’s sister could also hypnotize her friends, even making one not feel a pin in her leg. This showed the strange powers of her supernatural belief system and paranormal phenomena. It made Tami and her family wonder about the voodoo doll and its link to the unexplained occurrences they faced.

“The power of the voodoo doll and my sister’s psychic abilities were undeniable. It was a disturbing experience that left us questioning the boundaries of the natural world.”

Tami’s story reminds us of the mysteries that exist in the shadows. Psychic abilities and voodoo dolls can go beyond what we know, making us rethink reality. Stories like Tami’s keep us thinking about the paranormal phenomena and supernatural belief systems that are out there.

Child’s Intuition Saves Lives

A young girl’s premonition and psychic intuition saved her and her grandparents from a plane crash. Her story is a chilling tale of supernatural occurrences and unexplained phenomena. These events led to a life-saving moment.

The girl was just a few years old and wouldn’t get on the plane with her grandparents. After takeoff, the plane crashed in the Everglades, with no one expected to survive. The girl’s mom was at work, unaware of the disaster, when she heard the news. That night, the grandparents called, telling her they were alive.

The girl’s premonition and her decision not to board the plane saved their lives. This event shows the power of psychic intuition and unexplained phenomena. It guides us towards safety and survival.

“I still can’t believe how her intuition saved us that day. It was like she knew something terrible was going to happen, and we’re so grateful she listened to that inner voice.”

The family is amazed by this paranormal experience. They are forever grateful for the life-saving act of the child’s premonition. This story reminds us that sometimes, the most extraordinary answers come from the young.

Recent Paranormal Sightings in 2024

In Japan, the Aokigahara Forest is famous for its dark history. Visitors often feel sad and frustrated there. They hear strange noises and experience things they can’t explain. This adds to the forest’s scary reputation.

Haunted Apartment’s Nightly Antics

Kena lives in a haunted apartment in Flagstaff, USA. She’s seen many strange things, like her TV turning on by itself and hearing knocks on the walls. She even saw a tall, thin man named Charles in overalls.

These spooky events made her life tough, but she found a way to calm the ghost down. She yelled at it, keeping the scary moments mostly in the kitchen.

The Warning from Beyond

But the ghostly activity didn’t stop. When Kena was in COVID-19 quarantine, the strange happenings started again. Her TV turned on at night, making her life even more frightening.

Her apartment has become a place of constant paranormal activity. Kena is now looking for ways to make her home peaceful again.

“The TV would just turn on in the middle of the night, and I’d hear knocks on the walls. One time, I even saw a tall, thin man in overalls named Charles walking through the kitchen. It was terrifying, but I yelled at him, and the activity seemed to die down for a while.”

Kena’s story shows how scary supernatural experiences and unexplained phenomena can be. Even our homes can be affected by unseen forces and ghostly presences. She’s trying to deal with the ghost, reminding us that our homes can be haunted.

Premonitions of the Future

In today’s world, the lines between what’s real and what’s not are getting fuzzy. One person’s story has made us think more about premonitions. They had many vivid visions that later came true, making them question if their home is linked to these premonitions and visions of the future.

This person had a scary premonition of spitting out blood while in the mirror. It actually happened a few days later. They also had a premonition about finding a rare shirt at a thrift store, and it was true soon after.

These supernatural occurrences and unexplained phenomena have left them confused. They wonder if their home is causing these premonitions. They also worry about if these visions of the future will keep happening in their life.

As they deal with this paranormal experience, they’re diving deeper into the mysteries of the unexplained. They’re looking for answers about their premonitions.

“I can’t help but wonder if the house I live in is the catalyst for these premonitions, and whether these visions of the future will continue to manifest in my life.”

This story highlights the complex world of premonitions. It shows how the physical and metaphysical can mix, making us think about our psychic abilities and the supernatural occurrences that might affect our lives.

The Unexplained Shack in the Woods

In a secluded corner of the woods, an anonymous source shares a chilling tale. They and their sister found an unexplained shack that seemed to break the rules of nature. The eerie sound of whispering voices greeted them as they approached.

A large piece of wood suddenly fell inside, as if pushed by an unseen force. This event left them both feeling uneasy.

That night, the source had a vivid vision. A face stared at them, saying, “GO [TO] THE SHACK.” Their sister had the same dream, making them think paranormal activity was real.

The next day, they went back to the shack, but it was gone. It was as if it never existed. This mysteriously disappeared left them confused. They wondered if what they saw was real or just their imagination.

“The shack just… vanished. It was like it had never been there at all. We were left with more questions than answers.”

The story of the eerie experiences shows us the world has many mysteries. These stories remind us that there’s still much we don’t understand. They encourage us to keep exploring the paranormal activity that surrounds us.

Ouija Board’s Startling Accuracy

Imagine a moment when a simple Ouija board shows deep insights, leaving you and your friend amazed. That’s what happened to an anonymous person, who had a shocking experience with the tool.

The person and their friend wanted to test the Ouija board. They asked specific questions to see if it was accurate. They asked about their friend’s mom’s birth date, something they didn’t know. The Ouija board gave the right answer, surprising them both.

This showed the Ouija board’s amazing skill in giving correct info, even when the users didn’t know the answers. It made the person believe the board was guided by something supernatural, not just their hands.

The board’s precise answer about the friend’s mom’s birth date sparked a debate. Is it just a toy, or does it connect to the unknown? This question has made people wonder about the Ouija board’s true power.

“The Ouija board’s ability to provide the correct details, even when the users did not know the answers, left the source convinced that the movements of the planchette were guided by an unexplainable force, not their own hands.”

The story of the Ouija board shows our deep interest in the unknown and our quest to understand the supernatural. The board keeps fascinating people, making them want to explore its mysteries further.

The Ouija board became popular because it offered a quick way to communicate with spirits. Its mysterious nature was a big part of its appeal, helping it sell well and gain fame.

Today, the Ouija board still captures the hearts of those who love the unknown. Its ability to give accurate answers, even when users don’t know them, is a mystery that continues to intrigue us all.

Grandad’s Ghostly Shove

Paranormal activity and ghostly presences can be scary and fascinating at the same time. An anonymous person shared a scary story about their late grandfather’s supernatural presence.

The person was sleeping when they felt a strong push, like being kicked by a horse. They quickly went to their grandmother, who said their grandfather was upset they missed breakfast. This unexplained phenomenon made the person very uneasy, and they never spoke to the grandfather again. But, the spiritual encounter had a big effect on them.

The poltergeist-like event is still a mystery, but experts think it might be caused by stress, worry, or being in a tough place. Many people feel like there’s an extra person with them when they’re alone or under a lot of stress. This is known as the “feeling of presence” phenomenon.

“Extreme or unusual environments can trigger a ‘sensed presence’ phenomenon. In situations like Shackleton’s failed Antarctic expedition, air-crashes, space travel, or solitary sailing, individuals may adaptively imagine a third man for moral support.”

The story of the source’s meeting with their grandfather’s ghostly presence shows us that supernatural experiences might not always be real spirits. They could be our own fears and worries. Research says the “feeling of presence” is a deep part of how we think and feel.

Conclusion

This year, we’ve seen a lot of paranormal stories and unexplained events. These stories have left many of us wondering. They include tales of ghosts, psychic visions, UFOs, and Ouija board messages.

Young people are really into these stories, thanks to social media like TikTok. They’re mixing old myths with new tech and stories. This shows that as fewer people believe in traditional religions, more are looking into the supernatural.

If you’re into the paranormal or just curious, this article has given you a peek into the supernatural world. We suggest keeping an open mind. There might be answers to these mysteries in places we least expect.

Inside The Most Frightening Stories Of Ghost Ships From History

Over the centuries, numerous vessels have been found floating on the high seas without a crew — here are some of the most disturbing cases.

AlamyAn illustration of the Flying Dutchman, a legendary ghost ship.

Throughout maritime history, sailors have reported sightings of ghost ships with eerily similar details — empty vessels appearing out of the blue, with no one aboard and no sign of what happened to the crew.

These ships travel unmanned across the seas, reminding mariners who witness their silent journeys of the many dangers of open water.

These ghost ships are an integral part of seafarers’ lore. But while some stories of these vessels are simply urban legends, there are several real ghost ships that have been spotted drifting across the oceans.

From the Mary Celeste to the SS Baychimo, here are some of the most mysterious and bizarre ghost ships from history.

The Infamous Ghost Ship Mary Celeste

DeAgostini/Getty ImagesThe Mary Celeste, a merchant ship found abandoned near the Azores Islands in 1872.

On November 7, 1872, the American vessel Mary Celeste set out on a voyage from New York City to Genoa, Italy. The people aboard included Captain Benjamin Briggs, his wife and two-year-old daughter, and seven crewmen.

The ship’s last entry placed the vessel near the Azores Islands, located about 1,000 miles west of mainland Portugal, on November 25th.

Then, on December 5th, Captain David Morehouse of the British brig Dei Gratia discovered the Mary Celeste abandoned 400 miles east of the Azores.

Morehouse sent his men to investigate, and they soon discovered that the entire crew was missing — along with a lifeboat. Eerily, nearly everything seemed to be in good order on the ship, aside from disassembled pumps. The crew’s belongings and a six-month supply of food and water remained in the vessel. Everyone’s clothing was neatly packed away.

Though there was about three feet of water in the ship’s hull, the vessel was still seaworthy and did not suffer any serious damage. The Mary Celeste was in good enough shape that Captain Morehouse was able to take it to Gibraltar. There, he informed British authorities about the missing crew.

Despite an investigation, the crew was never found and a court declared that it did not suspect foul play. In the following years, the story of the ghost ship Mary Celeste became legendary. Theories about what happened to the 10 missing passengers ranged from mutiny to wrathful sea monsters.

In 2002, documentarian Anne MacGregor and oceanographer Phil Richardson attempted to solve the mystery themselves. Using the data in the captain’s log, the two researchers postulated that Captain Briggs had misidentified his location by more than 100 miles. Additionally, they learned that the ship had apparently faced rough seas and winds shortly before the last log entry.

A disassembled pump found on the ship led the researchers to believe that Captain Briggs was worried about the amount of seawater in the ship’s hull. For a captain responsible for the lives of his crew and his family, he possibly made the ill-informed call to abandon ship out of fear that it was sinking.

The Mystery Of The Ghost Ship MV Joyita

Wikimedia CommonsThe MV Joyita was found adrift and abandoned in the South Pacific in 1955.

The MV Joyita was an American merchant vessel built in 1931. The U.S. Navy acquired the ship during World War II and later sold it to a private owner.

The vessel changed hands a number of times, and its last captain would be a British sailor named Thomas H. “Dusty” Miller, who was living in Samoa.

On October 3, 1955, the MV Joyita sailed from Samoa en route to the Tokelau Islands, an island territory of New Zealand. At the time of the vessel’s departure, the MV Joyita carried 16 crew members and nine passengers.

Though just one of the ship’s engines was running properly, the crew felt the voyage would be safe given that it was supposed to be a two-day trip.

When the ship failed to arrive on time, authorities became very concerned. Although they hadn’t received a distress signal from the vessel, the Royal New Zealand Air Force patrolled the waters in case the ship was in peril.

Weeks later, on November 10th, a merchant ship traveling to the Funafuti Atoll stumbled upon a drifting ship, tipped very heavily to one side. When the captain called out to the vessel, there was no response, alarming the crew.

Wikimedia CommonsThough the ghost ship Joyita was in poor condition, it was extremely buoyant — and it was unlikely that it would sink.

An initial investigation of the boat — which turned out to be the MV Joyita, about 600 miles off course — found that it was empty. No passengers were aboard, and most of the cargo was missing. The lifeboats were also gone.

Chillingly, the windows of the deckhouse were broken, and bloody bandages were discovered on the deck. The vessel’s (faulty) radio was set to 2182 kHz, an international marine distress radio frequency.

An official investigation found that a faulty pipe allowed water to enter the ship’s hull, likely causing panic among the people on board.

But officials could not understand why the captain would decide to abandon ship, given the vessel’s extreme buoyancy. Despite the MV Joyita’s poor condition, it was still afloat even after weeks adrift at sea. In contrast, the lifeboats on the boat were questionable at best. So why did everyone leave?

Countless theories emerged as to what caused the MV Joyita to become a ghost ship, including a pirate attack, a mutiny, and even supernatural forces. But authorities have never been able to confirm what exactly happened.

The Disaster That Struck The Ryou-Un Maru

Wikimedia CommonsThe Ryou-Un Maru, a Japanese fishing vessel pushed out to sea by a tsunami in 2011.

The story of the Ryou-Un Maru is unlike those of other ghost ships. It was not carrying crew members or other passengers at the time of its demise. Instead, it was an empty fishing boat pushed out to sea by the powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit northeast Japan in March 2011.

The Ryou-Un Maru was created around 1982 for a Hokkaido-based fishing company. It served for decades as a shrimping boat before it became too old to use. The company retired it to Honshu and put it up for sale before the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami struck Japan.

The disaster cast the vessel out into the Pacific, where it drifted for months. However, its owners strongly believed that it had sank during the disaster, and so the boat’s registration was canceled.

But then, about a year later, the unmanned vessel was spotted by the Canadian Coast Guard. By April 2012, Ryou-Un Maru had entered U.S. waters near Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard soon began tracking the ship.

Ultimately, the U.S. Coast Guard decided to sink the ghost ship to avoid having it run aground or cause a navigational hazard.

The Ryou-Un Maru now rests on the seafloor of the Gulf of Alaska.

The Icy Story Of The HMS Resolute

Wikimedia CommonsAn illustration of the HMS Resolute, a British ship that became trapped in Arctic ice in the mid-19th century.

The British Royal Navy first commissioned the HMS Resolute to search for the lost Franklin expedition, two British ships that had gone missing in the Arctic in the 1840s while searching for the Northwest Passage.

Considering the grim circumstances, officials specifically outfitted the new vessel to withstand the brutal conditions of the Arctic.

The HMS Resolute was officially launched in 1850, and the crew ended up discovering minor clues as to where the Franklin expedition had gone. The Resolute then returned safely to Britain.

Sir Edward Belcher commanded the ship’s next voyage to the Arctic. This time, the orders were to find Sir John Franklin or figure out his fate.

In 1852, the Resolute departed from Britain and arrived in the Arctic a few months later. Though there were other ships included in this expedition, the Resolute went the farthest west, traveling all the way to Dealy Island, which is located in what is now part of Nunavut, Canada.

According to the U.S. Naval Institute, the Resolute was driven away from its base at Dealy Island in August 1853 during a storm. Ice floes began moving along with the ship, and the vessel soon became trapped in the ice.

Public Domain/Wikimedia CommonsIn a strange twist, the timbers from the HMS Resolute ended up being used to create this Oval Office desk.

As the months passed, the ship’s crew realized that the vessel wouldn’t be freed from the ice anytime soon. By May 1854, the men had abandoned the Resolute and made a perilous journey on foot across the ice to find the other ships in their expedition. Fortunately, they did.

Later, in September 1855, the crew on the American whaler George Henry rediscovered the abandoned Resolute just outside of Baffin’s Bay, about 1,200 miles away from where the crew abandoned it.

The U.S. government paid $40,000 for the vessel, restored it to its original condition, and presented it to Queen Victoria as an act of goodwill in 1856.

The Resolute was later broken up in 1879, and the British government decided to create desks from the timbers. Interestingly enough, one of those desks ended up being gifted to U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes — the Resolute Desk, which remains in the Oval Office to this day.

A Taxing Situation For The Ghost Ship Bel Amica

Public DomainThe Bel Amica was found abandoned and derelict near Sardinia, Italy in 2006.

In August 2006, the Italian Coast Guard discovered the unmanned schooner Bel Amica just off the coast of Sardinia, Italy. The vessel appeared to have been hastily abandoned by its crew, with only some food, maps, and clothes left on board, indicating that it had once been occupied.

The ship’s owner had apparently not registered it, and the vessel’s only identification was found on a plaque that bore the words Bel Amica, likely a misspelling of the phrase for “beautiful friend” in Italian.

Eventually, Italian authorities identified Franc Rouayrux, a man from Luxembourg, as the owner of the ghost ship. Rouayrux claimed that he’d anchored the vessel after learning about an “emergency” at home.

Though Rouayrux insisted that he’d intended to return to the empty vessel, authorities were skeptical of his story. The Italian media speculated that Rouayrux abandoned the ship because he wanted to avoid paying the steep taxes that came along with owning a luxury boat.

The Mystery Of The Carroll A. Deering

Bettmann/Getty ImagesThe crew of the Carroll A. Deering abandoned the vessel off the coast of North Carolina in 1921.

The American schooner Carroll A. Deering was built in 1919 as a commercial vessel. The ship was only in operation for a couple of years before a mysterious incident onboard forced it into early retirement.

In August 1920, Captain William Merritt set off on the schooner with a crew of 10 men to drop off coal in Brazil, but he soon fell seriously ill and needed to turn back. Merritt’s son, the first mate, left with his father.

The two men were soon replaced with Willis B. Wormell, who took on the role of the captain even though he was retired, and Charles B. McLellan, who became the first mate. They successfully delivered the cargo in Brazil, but it was clear that Wormell and McLellan hated each other.

Later, in early January 1921, when the crew made a stop in Barbados, McLellan became drunk and ominously said, “I’ll get the captain before we get to Norfolk, I will.” Reportedly, he’d already threatened to kill Wormell.

Around January 9, 1921, the crew started heading back to the U.S. and eventually traveled toward North Carolina, near the Cape Lookout Shoals.

On January 29th, Cape Lookout Shoals Lightship Vessel 80 spotted the Carroll A. Deering on the water. The lightship’s master, Thomas Jacobson, reported that a red-haired man with a Scandinavian accent hailed him. That alone wasn’t unusual, as most of the men in the crew were Danish.

Wikimedia CommonsOne of the last images of the Carroll A. Deering on the water, before the crew vanished.

But Jacobson said that this Scandinavian man didn’t “look or act or speak like either the master or an officer.” The man also claimed to Jacobson that the Carroll A. Deering lost its anchors and chains, and that the owners of the vessel needed to be contacted. In addition, Jacobson noted that the crew was standing on the quarterdeck, an area usually occupied by the captain.

This was the last sighting of the vessel on the water.

On January 31st, a Coast Guard beach patrol saw the Carroll A. Deering run aground off Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks. Because of bad weather, rescue boats could not inspect the vessel until February 4th. It was clear that the crew had abandoned the vessel and that it was in bad shape.

The ship’s lifeboats, navigational equipment, and chronometer were all missing. The kitchen showed signs of recent cooking. Strangely, there was also a six-toed cat — the only living thing found aboard the vessel.

The federal government opened an investigation, but its results were inconclusive. Several theories have emerged over the years, including hurricanes, piracy, communists, and even the Bermuda Triangle.

However, the most likely explanation may be mutiny — as the captain and first mate despised each other — followed by the crew making an ill-fated escape after the ship ran aground. Still, the full truth of what really happened on the Carroll A. Deering is up to speculation.

The Haunting Story Of The Kaz II

Queensland Police Service/Getty ImagesThe Kaz II was a yacht that was found empty near the Australian coast in 2007.

On April 15, 2007, three middle-aged men boarded the catamaran Kaz II in Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia. The men, Des Batten and brothers Peter and John Tunstead, had an eight-week-long journey ahead of them to get back to the city of Perth, where they lived.

But just three days later, the yacht was found adrift near the Whitsunday Islands. The next day, Emergency Management Queensland crewman Corrie Benson was able to board the ship — and found it unoccupied.

Strangely, the engine was still running, nothing seemed to be missing from the vessel, and a table even appeared to be set for dinner. There was a ripped sail, and there were some stray items on the floor. However, authorities who searched the ghost ship found no signs of foul play.

Search and rescue operations immediately began looking for the men, but they could find no sign of them anywhere near the vessel.

Though theories soon emerged that the men had been attacked by pirates or drug smugglers, or that they had even faked their own deaths for insurance purposes, a coroner in Townsville, Queensland who investigated the case believes that the men died in a tragic freak accident.

According to The Guardian, coroner Michael Barnes’ theory proposes that one man, perhaps one of the Tunstead brothers, accidentally fell overboard and the other brother tried to save him. As the other man, Batten, tried to maneuver the boat and rescue his friends, he accidentally fell overboard too.

“Once the three men were in the water there was very little chance they could get back on the boat,” Barnes said. “It would be beyond their reach in seconds. From that point, the end would have been swift.”

The Perpetually Sailing SS Baychimo

Wikimedia CommonsThe SS Baychimo became trapped in pack ice in 1931, forcing its crew to abandon it.

First launched in 1914, the SS Baychimo was initially used as a German trading vessel, serving Germany’s Baltic posts during World War I.

After the war ended, the ship was given to the British government as part of Germany’s war reparations. The British fitted the SS Baychimo to journey to northern Canada for the Hudson’s Bay Company. The ship’s main role included collecting furs to bring back to Europe.

But in late September 1931, the vessel became trapped in pack ice on its way back to Europe. In early October, the crew began disassembling parts of the ship, convinced that the vessel would need to stay put for the rest of the winter. Most of the crew members were soon picked up by an aircraft, while a few others found shelter for the winter and planned to stay near the ship.

However, in November, a blizzard struck the area and the SS Baychimo disappeared. The remaining crew members all assumed it sank.

But just a week later, local trappers spotted the vessel about 70 miles from the crew’s shelter. The crew found the ship, but were unable to board because of broken ice in the area, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

When the crew tried to board it at a later time, they found that the ship had disappeared once again. This was not the last time that something like this would happen. Fortunately, the remaining crew members were picked up by February 1932, so the ghost ship was no longer their concern.

Strangely enough, over the next few decades, several eyewitness reports of the SS Baychimo came to light. The last of these reports came in 1969, from a group of Inupiat people, about 38 years after the ship’s abandonment.

In 2006, the Alaskan government organized efforts to identify the whereabouts of the ghost ship, but the vessel still has yet to be found.

The Ghost Ship SS Ourang Medan And Its Terror-Stricken Crew

Twitter/Haunted History BCA recreation of what the SS Ourang Medan may have looked like.

The tale of the SS Ourang Medan is unlike those of other ghost ships.

For one, historians are unsure if it ever existed.

The legend of the vessel first emerged in the 1940s, when stories circulated in various newspapers around the world about a mysterious ship that had been discovered in the Strait of Malacca, near modern-day Indonesia.

The specific details of the story vary depending on the source, but a popular version claims that another nearby ship picked up a disturbing SOS message from the Ourang Medan: “We float. All officers, including the captain, dead in chartroom and on the bridge. Probably whole of crew dead… I die.”

An American vessel called the Silver Star investigated the distress call, and when the rescuers happened upon the Ourang Medan, they found the entire crew dead on the ship under bizarre circumstances. Chillingly, everyone’s faces were reportedly frozen in terror — even the dog’s face.

Even more shocking, when the Silver Star tried to tow the Ourang Medan to port, the vessel allegedly caught fire and then exploded before the rescuers’ eyes. Stunned, they watched in horror as the destroyed ship sank.

But as bone-chilling as this story is, no official record of the Ourang Medan has ever been found. Furthermore, no evidence of a shipwreck like that one has been located in the Strait of Malacca, or anywhere else.

It’s possible that this story is nothing more than a myth. However, it’s a legend that’s endured for decades, and it’s inspired countless theories as to what happened to the doomed sailors (if they really existed).

Some accounts suggest that if the ship was real, it may have been carrying dangerous materials like potassium cyanide and nitroglycerine during or right after World War II, which led to both the deaths and the explosion.

The SS Valencia And Its Path Toward Collision

Wikimedia CommonsThe SS Valencia was an iron-hulled passenger steamer that collided with a reef in 1906.

Originally constructed in 1882, the SS Valencia was a passenger steamer vessel built to travel between New York City and Venezuela.

But in January 1906, the vessel was journeying between San Francisco and Seattle, taking over the route for another ship that was undergoing repairs.

On January 21st, the SS Valencia was traveling with 108 passengers and 65 crew members when it hit a patch of bad weather near Cape Mendocino. The ship’s crewmen were unable to accurately pinpoint their location, causing the ship to drift into a reef on the night of January 22nd.

The impact ripped through its hull, filling it with water.

The captain ordered the crew members to lower six lifeboats, but didn’t give the order to abandon ship. Amidst the panic and confusion on board, however, people began boarding the lifeboats anyway. Three were improperly manned, and the people in them ended up drowning. Of the three that were properly launched, one disappeared and the other two capsized.

A number of crew members were able to safely evacuate and successfully abandon ship. They later found their way to the Cape Beale Light Station, where they told the keeper what happened.

Tragically, most aboard the ship died, and only 37 people survived. Media outlets reported it as the worst maritime disaster in the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” the area of Vancouver Island where the vessel hit the reef.

Curiously, in 1933, about 27 years after the disaster, authorities discovered the missing lifeboat in Barkley Sound, in surprisingly good condition. However, there was no sign of the passengers who had used it to escape.

According to legend, local fishermen reported seeing the SS Valencia’s missing lifeboat being rowed by skeletons in the years following the disaster.

Similar stories came from sailors on other vessels, reporting that they saw the ghost ship of the SS Valencia with its deck manned by skeletons.

A Mysterious Wartime Disappearance On The Ghost Ship SV Zebrina

YouTubeThe ship SV Zebrina was found without its crew in 1917.

It’s no secret that sailing during wartime comes with dangers. During World War I, German U-boats sank about 5,000 ships that belonged to the Allies.

In the case of the SV Zebrina, a British schooner originally built to travel to South America and transport products there, German U-boats may have been responsible for the incident that occurred in October 1917.

At that point in time, the Zebrina had been repurposed for shorter trade trips around Europe. The ship’s captain and his crew of five were supposed to journey from Falmouth, England to Cherbourg, France to drop off some coal. But two days after the vessel took off, it was discovered to have run aground in Rozel Point, which was south of Cherbourg.

Surprisingly, the ship itself was in good condition. But the crew was missing.

Puzzled by the scene, authorities in France initially believed that a German U-boat had attacked the vessel. After all, Europe was embroiled in a deadly conflict, and all ships on the water were potential targets.

Theories emerged that the crew members had abandoned the Zebrina after being fired upon by a U-boat and then later went missing in their lifeboat, leaving the Zebrina a ghost ship. But other theories suggested that the crew members had actually been kidnapped by the Germans.

However, after the war was over, German officials stated that there was no record of an attack on the boat. Furthermore, it was unlikely that the Zebrina would be in such good condition following an attack, and there was also valuable cargo left on board. Germans maintained that the Zebrina case was just as mysterious to them as it was to the Allies.

A later theory suggested that the crew on the Zebrina was not attacked by an enemy ship at all, but that they instead accidentally fell overboard during a squall, leaving their ship to drift and eventually run aground.

A Mental Breakdown At Sea And The End Of The Teignmouth Electron

Wikimedia CommonsThe Teignmouth Electron was a trimaran sailing vessel designed specifically for British businessman Donald Crowhurst.

The tragic story of the Teignmouth Electron begins and ends with Donald Crowhurst, a British businessman and amateur sailor.

In 1968, Crowhurst decided to compete in the Golden Globe Race, a non-stop solitary yacht race across the globe. His vessel Teignmouth Electron was specifically designed for this purpose, and he hoped to win.

Unfortunately, Crowhurst’s voyage was plagued with problems from the start. His vessel even started taking on water. But instead of returning home to admit defeat — and face financial ruin, as he had staked nearly everything on the race — Crowhurst began fabricating data on how far he’d traveled.

Crowhurst likely assumed that he would “finish” the race in last place, meaning that no one would take a close look at his phony data. But as the months went on, he learned that other sailors had dropped out of the race, or that their vessels had begun to sink and they had to be rescued.

According to The Guardian, Crowhurst seemed poised to take the prize for the fastest circumnavigation, meaning that his data would be analyzed closely and that his deception would likely be revealed.

By the spring of 1969, Crowhurst’s mental health had begun to deteriorate, partly due to being alone on the waters for so long and partly due to the fact that his fabrications were about to come to light. In June 1969, he had a complete mental breakdown and penned a 25,000-word manifesto about transcendence and the nature of the cosmos.

Then, on July 10, 1969, the Royal Mail ship Picardy discovered the Teignmouth Electron drifting in the mid-Atlantic. The vessel was unmanned, and it appeared that it had been abandoned several days before.

Crowhurst’s log books, his falsified data, and his bizarre manifesto were soon discovered, painting a chilling picture of his final days.

It’s assumed that he died by suicide, but his body was never recovered.

The Ghost Ship Jenny’s Frozen Voyage Through The Drake Passage

The story of the alleged English schooner Jenny is shrouded in mystery. According to legend, this ship departed from the Isle of Wight in 1822 and later became frozen in the Drake Passage, a notoriously dangerous body of water between Argentina and Antarctica, in 1823.

In 1840, the whaling ship Hope allegedly discovered the ghost ship Jenny, as well as the preserved remains of the vessel’s crew. Some accounts state that the Hope crew found the passengers frozen in place.

According to the Hope’s captain, the Jenny’s last log entry was made on January 17, 1823, and the ship’s last port of call was near Lima, Peru.

The earliest accounts of this haunting story appeared in the Austrian newspaper Wiener Zeitung in 1841, but historians have never been able to substantiate the original claims about the vessel.

Some historians suspect that this tale may have been part of newspapers’ attempts to increase readership. After all, the Arctic and Antarctic were considered to be mysterious regions to most people, and a ghost ship found near one of those areas would certainly make for a gripping tale.

An Ill-Fated Atlantic Crossing In The Ocean Wave

The Artist Rights Society Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader disappeared while on his vessel Ocean Wave in 1975.

A conceptual artist from the Netherlands, Bas Jan Ader created a number of notable pieces in the 1960s and early 1970s. Often times, these would be photos and films showcasing various forms of performance art — and many of them were showcased in museums and galleries around the world.

But after 1975, Ader arguably became better known for his mysterious disappearance at sea — and the ghost ship that he left behind.

Along with being a respected artist, Ader was also a talented sailor, and he set out on an ambitious journey on July 9, 1975. His plan was to sail solo from Chatham, Massachusetts across the North Atlantic to Falmouth, England. From there, he’d travel to his home country, the Netherlands, to exhibit some of his artwork at a museum there.

He chose a very small vessel, a 12-and-a-half-foot pocket cruiser named Ocean Wave, to make the voyage. According to Hyperallergic, Ader’s goal was to complete his journey in about two or three months in what would have been the smallest boat to successfully cross the Atlantic.

But after his departure, Ader was never seen again.

On April 18, 1976, a Spanish fishing boat, the Eduardo Pondal, spotted a small vessel about 150 nautical miles away from Ireland. The empty ship was floating vertically and was obviously damaged.

The crew of the fishing boat lugged the vessel onto their ship and thoroughly searched it, finding Ader’s identification cards. By that point, the ghost ship had been adrift for six months, judging by the barnacles attached to it.

The fishing boat took the vessel to Spain, where an unknown thief stole it.

In the Netherlands and the United States, several theories about Ader’s fate emerged. Some observers believed that Ader’s intention for the trip was to die by suicide as a macabre form of artistic expression.

However, his wife strongly disagreed with this theory, stating, “I’m absolutely convinced that was nowhere in his consciousness. We talked about it, and he assured me repeatedly these were not his intentions.”

Both Ader’s wife and his brother believed his death was a tragic accident, and that he likely had been knocked overboard during bad weather.

A Case Of Mutiny On The Ghost Ship High Aim 6

YouTubeThe High Aim 6 was a Taiwanese ship that was discovered without its crew in 2003.

In early January 2003, the Taiwanese fishing ship High Aim 6 was found without its crew, floating in Australian waters.

Australian authorities were puzzled as to why the vessel had been abandoned. The ghost ship, which had departed Taiwan with a mostly Indonesian crew back in October 2002, was still in good condition, stocked with plenty of provisions, and it didn’t appear to be smuggling anything.

A search was conducted over an area of thousands of nautical miles, but no trace of the crew was found. However, later that same month, Indonesian authorities discovered that local calls were still being made from the ship’s engineer’s phone. This led them to suspect that mutiny may have occurred.

Amazingly, police were able to track down one surviving member of the High Aim 6 crew. The unnamed man admitted that not only had he been part of the crew, but he also knew why the vessel had been abandoned: The ship’s captain, Chen Tai-cheng, and the chief engineer, Lin Chung-li, had been murdered by other crew members.

According to the man, the crew then decided to abandon ship, return to their home country, and go on the run. He did not give a motive for the crimes, nor did he go into detail about how the murders took place.

As for the High Aim 6 itself, the former ghost ship soon fell into Australian hands and was eventually disassembled in 2004.

The  Most Famous Ghost Stories Ever – Most Famous Ghosts In the World

The Flying Dutchman

It might not be a human ghost, but the Flying Dutchman is without a doubt one of the most famous hauntings of all time. Dating way back to the seventeenth century, this is one of those sea-faring stories passed between sailors during long, arduous voyages, but as with most sea stories, there is an element of truth to the tale.

The ship was doomed to being swallowed by the seas once the captain refused to turn back towards safer waters during a rough storm. Passengers and crew begged the captain to take to safer seas, and still he refused. He thought he would be able to take his ship through the storm, and somewhat foolhardily challenged God to take him, his people and the ship down. Thus, the ship was taken down. The Flying Dutchman is seen at sea either as a light or a somewhat translucent image, and brings with it a sense of doom. Moral of the story: don’t mess with the sea.

We’ve recently posted a great article on the real ghost ships spotted all over the world!

The Brown Lady

The Brown Lady is probably one of the most famous ghost photographs in existence. She appears in a photograph taken at Raynham Hall, Norfolk, as a translucent white figure in a hooded robe on a staircase. She’s known as the Brown Lady because she’s most commonly seen in a heavy brown dress.

The most common theory surrounding who the Brown Lady is is that she is Dorothy Walpole, who was married to Viscount Charles Townshend. She died in 1726 under what many people now believe to be mysterious circumstances and was seen regularly around the Hall until the photograph was taken of her in 1936. She’s now seen far less frequently.

The Stanley Hotel

Some of the most famous hauntings and ghost sightings have taken place at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, which was the inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining – which, as an homage to the place, now plays 24/7 on every TV channel.

A few of the ghostly goings on at the hotel actually appear in the book and in the film. For example, staff at the hotel claim to have heard music and a commotion in the ballroom in the middle of the night and whilst it has been completely empty.

Children are heard racing through the halls, and guests have even reported seeing ghostly figures watching them in their rooms. Room 407 is thought to be home to Lord Dunraven, who used to own the land on which the hotel is built. He’s often blamed for any jewelry that goes missing – and, unsurprisingly, for the large amount of activity that occurs on the fourth floor.

The Berini Haunting

Starting in the late 1970s, the Berini haunting occurred at the residence of Joe and Rose Berini and their two children in New England. The two children were from Rose’s previous marriage, and in 1979, they were visited by a ghostly young girl who claimed that her name was Serena. Neither Joe nor Rose knew of a Serena in their family and were puzzled by the visit, although it was not without consequence, because shortly afterwards, their daughter Daisy nearly died during an operation to have her tonsils removed.

These spooky visits from childish ghouls and unfortunate events in the life of the Berini family became more common – with events culminating in Rose levitating out of her bed and two exorcisms before the family was finally left in peace.

The Winchester Mystery House

Home to some of America’s most famous ghost sightings, the Winchester Mystery House took 38 years to build – under the guidance of ghosts and ghouls. Instead of using architects to help with planning and design, Sarah Winchester, grieving after the death of her husband, asked for the help of a medium. He told her that he and her daughter had died due to a curse on the family because too many people had died at the hands of the Winchester gun. Sarah had to move, and not only that, but she had to build a house specifically for the spirits. But she couldn’t just build a house for them. If she ever stopped building, the curse would get her too.

A bell tower was added to summon and dismiss the spirits and a séance room to speak with the spirits directly, as well as her husband. The house is known as the mystery house – and in fact, tours are still given there today – due to the odd layout of the house, designed to flummox bad spirits and keep Sarah safe from the curse. Hallways doubled back on themselves, doorways dropped down to nowhere and led to windows, stair posts were installed upside down and everything in the house had 13 of something. 13 stairs, 13 panes of glass, 13 windows in the 13th bathroom… whether she thought using the number 13 would keep her safe from demons or not remains to be seen, but it’s a fascinating house.

Not only that, but all that summoning of spirits reportedly means that the house is brimming with paranormal activity. Organs are said to play of their own accord and there are cold spots throughout the house. Voices are heard with no explanation for their origin and there have even been sightings of spirits throughout the house.

Alcatraz

Some of the most famous ghosts and ghost stories come straight out of Alcatraz – because what could be spookier than an abandoned prison on an island? People still visit parts of the prison that are off limits today, even though it is highly forbidden, and bring back with them stories of ghouls, ghosts and incredibly terrifying encounters following them back to the mainland.

The first hauntings were reported in 1857 when men were still being imprisoned there, and one of the most notorious stories was reported in the 1940s when a figure dressed in clothing from the 19th century haunted cell block D, which contained an isolation cell. One inmate pleaded with guards on one night: he was being attacked by the apparition. He was screaming, crying, begging, pleading for help. He fell silent come morning and the guards finally went to check on him, when it was found that he had been strangled to death in a way that he could not possibly have inflicted upon himself. He too became one of Alcatraz’s many ghosts.

Over the years, reports of cold spots, injuries on guards and inmates at the hands of an unseen and unknown entity, howls and screams from an unseen person and much, much more have been reported at Alcatraz, making it one of the spookiest spots in America, and well deserving of a spot on our famous ghost sightings list.

Britain is home to a number of famous ghosts and ghouls – it’s probably all of the castles and stately homes we have. It’s fun to give yourself a scare from time to time, but for the extra scare factor? Look up some videos from the hauntings we’ve mentioned above and watch them in the dark, alone. We dare ya! Or take a look at our list of the 12 best ghost stories ever written!

We didn’t mention in the list above, the true story of the enfield haunting, which due to recent publicity is probably now one of the most famous ghost stories in the world.

Throughout history, tales of restless spirits and ghostly apparitions have captivated the human imagination. From tragic figures seeking solace to vengeful entities haunting their former abodes, these stories offer a glimpse into the mysteries that lie beyond our understanding.

Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of King Henry VIII, has a ghost story that continues to haunt England centuries after her execution. After failing to produce a male heir, Anne faced the wrath of her husband and was beheaded in 1536 at the Tower of London. Her restless spirit is said to linger at the site of her death, marking one of the most chilling apparitions in British history.

Reports of Anne's ghost span multiple locations, including:

  • Hever Castle, her childhood home

  • Blickling Hall, her birthplace

  • The Tower of London

  • Salle Church

  • Marwell Hall

Witnesses describe a "whitish, female figure" wandering the grounds, often seen carrying her severed head. One of the most unnerving encounters involved a guard at the Tower of London who fainted from fear after attempting to stab the specter with his bayonet.

Each sighting adds another layer to her sorrowful tale, forever tied to the English monarchy's brutal history.

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary is a chilling spectral entity said to appear in mirrors when summoned by speaking her name thrice in front of a dimly lit mirror. The origins of Bloody Mary are murky, with multiple stories attempting to explain her vengeful spirit.

Theories about Bloody Mary's identity include:

  • A witch from the Salem trials

  • A victim of a horrific murder

  • Queen Mary I of England, who earned the moniker "Bloody Mary" due to her persecution of Protestants

The ritual of summoning Bloody Mary has become a staple of sleepovers and a rite of passage for thrill-seekers. Some accounts describe her as a silent figure, her mournful eyes peering back from the depths of the mirror. Others tell a more terrifying tale—where she screams, reaches out, or even inflicts physical harm on those daring enough to summon her.

Whether you consider Bloody Mary to be a tragic figure, a vengeful spirit, or merely a figment of imagination, her legend has persisted for years, captivating those seeking an otherworldly encounter.

Kuchisake-onna

From Japanese urban legends emerges Kuchisake-onna, or the Slit-Mouthed Woman. This eerie apparition has haunted the imaginations of children and adults alike for decades. The legend recounts a beautiful woman disfigured in a jealous rage, her mouth horrifically sliced from ear to ear. As a vengeful spirit, Kuchisake-onna now roams the streets, particularly targeting children.

Her presence is signaled by her unsettling disguise: a surgical mask concealing her ghastly mouth. If she crosses your path, she will stop you with a deceptively simple question: "Am I beautiful?" A question loaded with danger, regardless of your answer.

ResponseConsequence

"No"Often leads to immediate demise

"Yes"She reveals her disfigurement and asks again

"Average"May confuse her long enough for escape

Kuchisake-onna's legend resurfaced with alarming prominence in the late 1970s, causing widespread panic and leading children to travel in groups. While reported encounters have waned over the years, the Slit-Mouthed Woman's sinister legend remains an indelible part of Japan's cultural lore, cautioning us to be wary of beautiful strangers bearing hidden horrors.

The Headless Nun

In French Fort Cove, Canada, the ghost of the Headless Nun roams endlessly in search of her severed head. Her story, dating back to the 1700s, has become a cornerstone of Canadian ghost lore. The Headless Nun, often referred to as Sister Marie Inconnue, was originally part of a group of noble French women sent to Canada to join convents.

Two competing accounts of her demise exist:

  1. She met her tragic end at the hands of a deranged fur trapper

  2. She was killed by treasure-seeking sailors

Regardless of the tale, the outcome remains the same: the nun's head was cruelly severed, leaving her spirit to wander in a desperate, eternal search to reclaim it.

Visitors to French Fort Cove have reported spine-chilling encounters with the spectral nun, describing a ghastly figure clutching her habit as she moves silently through the fog-laden woods. Some claim to hear mournful whispers on the wind or feel an inexplicable chill. Local legend holds that the Headless Nun is harmless to those who show her respect, but potentially vengeful towards those who mock her plight.

The cove has become a hotbed for paranormal enthusiasts and curious visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the legendary specter. Guides often recount the numerous sightings and mysterious phenomena associated with her, from unexplained lights flickering among the trees to sudden drops in temperature.

Despite the passage of time, the legend of the Headless Nun endures, ensuring that Sister Marie Inconnue's search for her head remains one of Canada's most haunting and enduring ghost stories.

The White Lady

The spectral figure known as the White Lady has haunted the imaginations and locales of various cultures around the globe. Dressed in her flowing white gown, this ghostly apparition presents a visage of sorrow and tragedy. While her presence is universal, each region has its own unique legend explaining the ethereal White Lady.

Regional variations of the White Lady legend:

  • Medieval England: Often associated with tales of despair and love gone awry. One popular tale tells of a heartbroken young woman who threw herself from a castle tower after learning of her lover's betrayal.
